More Characters!

Quick Note: Not all of these characters will be introduced at once. In fact, it may be some time before you see many of them.

Remy Harkens (Sydal) - 37 years old, Henry andVictoria's youngest brother, thus making him Lydia, Jean, and Patrick's uncle. Remy is unbelievably charming and handsome by most standards. Like his brother Henry, Remy's powers have been modified so that they do not effect anyone carrying the Family's DNA. What are those powers exactly? Similar to his brother, Remy has the gift of persuasion... but in an after-hours "would you like a cup of coffee?" way. To put it bluntly, Remy's body gives off a phermone that makes him sexually irrestiable to anyone who encounters this, man and woman alike. Unlike the cold, distant Victoria and the calculating Henry, Remy loves life and is always smiling, absorbing the world around him and experiencing everything life has to offer. Naturally, this makes him an outcast to the family and he adopted the last name of Harkens to help hide out.

Lt. Maria Thompson - 34 years old, Maria Thompson is an african american police officer of the city that the story takes place in. Tough as nails and confident in her abilities, Maria has clawed her way to where she is today, moving past the limitations many forced on her due to her race and sex. Lt. Thompson has been put in charge of the vigilante case and sees this as the opportunity she has been waiting for to further prove her worth and abilities to her colleagues. Maria is career-driven, but disgusted by the many legal loopholes that many criminals have exploited in order to triumphantly walk out of jail cells and court rooms.

Mary Sydal - 27 years old, Riley's older sister and Henry's wife. Mary is beautiful, soft-spoken, and tries to be a loving wife and sister to Henry and Riley respectively. Additionally, Mary has been watching Riley his entire life due to her abilities to observe the dreams of anyone she wishes. Mary gave birth to Christina Sydal five years ago, making her the first woman to give birth to the first "purebred" Family member. Sadly, Mary has the misfortune of being caught in the middle of her brother and husband's cold war as well as feeling the distrust that Riley has for her.

Christina Sydal - 5 years old, Henry and Mary's daughter and Riley's niece. Christina is the first "purebred" family member and considered the future of the Family. Her abilities haven't manifested themselves yet but many assume she will have the strongest abilities to date due to her heritage. Like most children her age, Christina has boundless energy, a reluctancy towards naps, and tomboy/girly traits that show up from time to time.

Christopher Sydal - 42 years old, older brother of Remy and younger brother of Victoria and Henry, Christopher is the leader of the Forsaken, a group of family members whose abilities or appearances are too extreme to coexist in the civiliazed world. Christopher has the ability to transform into a living shadow that absorbs the energy of any living thing that touches it. The effects of the energy absorbtion is usually a short-term coma, but if Christopher doesn't feed often enough, he'll fall into a coma himself. The Forsaken reside in the rural regions of Canada's tundra where they are generally left alone from humanity. Christopher's eyes are solid white but turn to black when he begins to hunger, thus transforming him to a more feral state. Additionally, Christopher's appearance begins to look more and more demonic the longer he goes without feeding.

Eleanor "Ellie" Linnell - 23 years old, nerd chic appearance. Riley's friend and roommate, as well as one of the few humans who eventually find out about the Family. Riley met Ellie through their job at a record store and eventually moved in with her after the pre-meditated murder of his previous roommate and friend. Ellie is a grad school student in Literature and figures out very quickly that there is more to Riley than he lets on. Ellie is generally one of the more clear-headed, intelligent characters in the story and eventually becomes close friends with Lydia. Despite her life being put in danger numerous times, Riley is stunned by Ellie's bravery in the face of death.

Added Characters

Jean "Johnny" Damier - Patrick's cousin, 22 years old, trendy dresser. Cocky and impulsive, Jean has the ability to move in speeds excess of 80 mph and in rare cases can actually move as fast as the speed of sound. In addition to being the fastest living thing on earth, Jean can catch bullets with little to no harm to himself, and, if he chooses to, hit someone with the force of a Nascar driving at top speeds. Its rumored that Jean can also think at super speeds, but he is very one-track minded and spends most of his time harrassing "norms" with his cousin, Patrick.

Lydia Damier - Jean's 16 year old sister, lolita-fashion, curly pig-tails, and pink bows. In comparsion to her brother, Lydia is highly intelligent, a sharp tongue, and tough despite her frilly appearance. Lydia has the ability to open portals that can transport herself, objects, and anyone physically touching her to anywhere in the world she chooses. The portals appear as blue, glowing holes that close as soon as Lydia passes through them. Once entering a portal, Lydia and her passangers must pass through a pocket dimension she has referred to as the Cyan Void. Lydia is wise beyond her years and eventually befriends Riley.

Grandmother - Her identity and location are a mystery, but she is believed to be the oldest living member of the Family. No one knows for certain, but popular myth states that she has the ability to permanently nullify any member of the Family's power by simply touching them. Her existence is a closely guarded secret from even some of the most high-ranking members of the family.

Madame Victoria Damier - Henry's sister and Jean and Lydia's 48 year old mother who leads a high-class life of fashion, wealth, and luxury in Paris, France. Victoria married a wealthy, unseen French politician, and has been living the smooth life since. Despite her life of luxury, however, Victoria is a cold, calculating, manipulative woman who is cyrokinetic and has the abilitity to form ice out of the molecules in the air. Despite her menacing abilities and sour dispossition, Victoria isn't so much of a villain to Riley as much as an occasional thorn in his side.

Basic Plot and Character Descriptions

First off, I'm not really sold on a name for this story yet. I would like to call it "Niche" but I've just got this feeling that it could probably be a lot better. Why "Niche"? You'll see why in a second.

Plot: 24 year old Riley Evans, alienated man in a big city, discovers that he's the member of a secret superhuman family. The Family (I haven't decided on a suitable last name yet) are well-to-do members of society whose bloodline can be traced back hundreds of years to a young man who gained superhuman abilities as the result of experimentation from a race of aliens. The Family has been careful to keep their existence a secret from normal society, but the ambitions of Henry, the patriarchal head of the family, may soon make that a thing of the past. After being discovered, Riley is welcomed into the family with open arms by his sister but he is unsure of what to do. Throughout the story, Riley will slowly discover Henry's intentions, encounter his numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles (some good, some bad), and try to resist arrest for his acts as a vigilante by the area police department.

Riley Evans - 24 years old, average looking appearance, and relatively antisocial. Riley has the ability to instantly adapt to his surroundings as well as know the best solution for any given situation. Due to his abilities, Riley has master-level combat skills, the abilities of a master gymnast, and a strategic mind. Its said that technically Riley's powers are probability based and his ability to shift probabilities to his favor. Despite having the skills to pinpoint where exactly to punch a man to inflict the most pain, Riley doesn't have an ego and remains relatively composed. Admittedly, when he is in the heat of battle and lets his powers kick in, he is frightened of what he is capable of and especially of how he feels no guilt from the actions themselves. The only person Riley feels like he can trust completely is his best friend and roommate, Ellie.

Henry Sydal - 45 years old, well-kept appearance, charming and sophisticated. Henry is Riley's brother-in-law and the head of the Family. Due to hundreds of years of the Family's gene spreading out, the elders of the family deemed it was safe for Henry to marry Riley's sister. Due to their marriage and giving birth to the first "pure-bred" in Family History, Henry assumed the role of the head of the family. Henry was married before and had children with his first wife who vanished one night several years ago. Henry possesses the power of suggestion, which basically means that he has the ability to control minds. In fact, his family quickly rose to power in the city due to his abilities to convince others to sell their control of the company over to him. Henry has played an integral part in keeping the Family a secret thanks to his ability to make people believe whatever he wants them too. However, Henry cannot use his powers against anyone with traces of the family's DNA. The reason behind this is a closely guarded secret.

Patrick Sydal - 24 years old, trendy appearance, cocky, and quick-witted. Patrick is Henry's son from his previous marriage and considers himself Riley's rival. Patrick is immortal and possesses the ability to regenerate his body from any injury, minor or fatal. However, Patrick's body will age at an abnormally slow rate. Due to his powers, Patrick believes that he is untouchable and destined to possess great power and riches. Patrick is usually seen not too far away from his cousin Jean, and together they're usually seen not too far away from trouble. Patrick and Jean enjoy terrorizing the "norms" and essentially live for making trouble.
